Belur is famous for the ancient Chennakesava Temple built in the Hoysala style. Started in 1116 AD, it took 103 years to complete this temple. The temple commemorates the victory of Hoysala over the Cholas in the great battle of Talakad.

The temple is intricately carved with sculptures, friezes & pillars. Belur, was (the earlier Capital of Hoysala Kingdom) built by the emperor Vishnuvardhana.

Recommended activity:

  1. A day trip to Belur and Halebid with a visit to the biggest Coffee Curing and Roasting Facility in the Hassan District.

If you are driving from Bangalore:

  1. You can visit Belur and Halebid on the way by taking a diversion to the left once you cross the town of Hassan.
  2. After visiting Belur and Halebid, continue towards Devagiri Retreat by driving towards Sakleshpur route.
